1855 (Nov 26): Postal Notice "Embossed Postage Stamps to be struck upon Paper and Envelopes" showing 4 d, vermilion (7.12.55), 6 d. mauve (7.12.55) and 1 s. green (7.12.55). In October 1855 the GPO offered to stamp items of Postal Stationer sent to Somerset House with embossed stamps; the initial Dies available were 1 d., 2 d., 4 d., 6 d. and 1 s. To make up different rate amounts the GPO offered composite printings or "Compound Stamping". A fine example of this scarce Notice.
